ACSD Ontario: Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities
ACSD Ontario is a monthly cash payment. It is for parents or guardians raising a child under 18 with a severe disability who lives at home. Unlike SSAH, this is direct money, not a reimbursement — it is deposited to you monthly, and you do not need to submit receipts first.
- Income level: Your total household income must be $77,640 or less. This program IS income-tested.
- Approval basis: Your ACSD Ontario payment amount depends on four things: your household income, your family size, how severe your child’s disability is, and extra disability-related costs your family has.

What ACSD Ontario Pays For
The monthly ACSD Ontario payment itself can go toward:
- Travel to doctors’ appointments, hospitals, and disability-related appointments
- Special shoes and clothes
- Parental relief, such as respite care
Extra Coverage Included with ACSD Ontario
If you qualify for ACSD Ontario, your child may also get help with:
- An assessment for an assistive device, or the co-pay for a device from the Assistive Devices Program (ADP)
- Batteries and repairs for mobility devices
- Prescription drugs through OHIP+
- Dental care through Healthy Smiles Ontario
- Hearing aids and vision care, including eyeglasses

How much money will my family get from ACSD Ontario?
Between $25 and $678 per month. The exact amount depends on your income, family size, and your child’s disability-related costs. There is no flat rate — every family’s payment is calculated individually.
Does the Canada Disability Benefit affect my ACSD Ontario payment?
No. If you receive the federal Canada Disability Benefit, it does not count as income and will not reduce your ACSD eligibility or payment amount.
Can I combine ACSD Ontario with SSAH or OAP?
Yes. ACSD Ontario is a separate program from both. You can receive all three at the same time if you qualify for each.
What if I disagree with my ACSD Ontario decision?
You can request an internal review within 30 days of your decision letter. If you still disagree after that, you can appeal to the Social Benefits Tribunal.
3-Step ACSD Ontario Application Checklist
- Check your household income. Your total household income must be $77,640 or less to qualify for ACSD Ontario.
- Apply online through the Ontario Transfer Payment Ontario (TPON) Portal, or download the paper form and mail it to your regional office. You have 90 days to finish and submit the online form once you start it.
- Wait for review. A Special Agreements Officer will review your application. You will get a letter with the decision.
